GINA DOES EXPERT COLOUR!

When my salon suddenly closed I thought I had lost GINA MENDIOLA forever. I went to a new salon and my hair became brassy and dull. I couldn't find a proper blowout either.
I learned that GINA moved to HAARTEK which is a lovely salon and in the same neighbourhood. I'm so relieved that my hair is restored to it's beautiful blonde and that Gina can do her amazing blow drys in between colours.
I'd recommend the salon and GINA 100%. 5*************+

My daughter had a hair cut today. The stylist was totally unprofessional uncooperative with the style we asked, also showed her a previous photo of hair cut my daughter had at another salon and no one of them helped budge in fixing it. The bold old guy as the owner totaly ignored it will never use them again they are money hungry.

Haartek does not care how their customers look, they only care about how much money they can extract from them. They do not stand behind their work and they do not think that customer dissatisfaction is their problem.

Came for color and cut, after paying $678 (300 for color, 200 for bleach, 100 for cut + tax), I left with a patchy, uneven dye job. There are patches of light and dark to almost black in the midsection (see pictures). When I asked why my hair turned out so patchy, my stylist became aggressive, then asked her colleague to join her in dismissing my simple query and I was told in a condescending & authoritative tone, “it's just how this dye works, you have to come back for a second dye for $200 to even out and deepen the color”. They never addressed or explained why my hair has light and black patches in the midsection. Their attitude was defensive. One of the stylists brushed off my dissatisfaction saying “no body will see it unless they look at your hair up close.” What an ignorant comment as I do not color my hair for other people, I do it for myself! They essentially admitted that the outcome was poor however, they did not care that it bothered me. I was ganged up on and made to feel as thought I was wrong for advocating for myself and questioning the poor job they did, it was very insulting and dismissive. This was the 5th time dying my hair the same shade of purple and whenever I was not pleased with anything, the salon would always fix it for free. The fact that Haartek wants to charge to fix their errors and poor methods is very unprofessional.

What also seemed inappropriate and unethical, was being told, while I was already sitting in their chair, that if I wanted bleach from the roots there would be an extra fee, which surprised me because the bleach already cost $200! I felt pressured so I opted out. In hindsight, I wish I paid the extra fee because my black roots are already showing – to the extent that it looks like 1 month of growth. When $200 was charged for bleach, root bleaching should be an option, not an extra fee. I would have appreciated being told of any surcharges at the time of booking instead of while I am seated in the chair with the process initiated – my ability to make an informed decision was taken away from me.

Also, the dye job left stains along the sides of my face, ears and neck. Elumen does carry a product to remove dye from skin, my previous salon would clean me with it. When I asked (yes – I had to ask to be cleaned up), they told me to try face toner, nail polish remover, hand sanitizer and rubbing alcohol at home. After trying multiple options without success, I soaked a cotton pad with rubbing alcohol and rubbed my temple. I regretted it instantly as it stinged, dried out and irritated my skin and the alcohol fumes irritated my eyes which caused them too water. I mistakenly rubbed my eyes, developed eyelids dermatitis, and had to see a doctor!
To add insult to injury, I got a call the next day from the stylist, saying she spoke with the owner and to fix the poor dye job, they would take $100 off the usual $200 charge, but only if I returned within 2 weeks. I said I needed to think about it. I declined the offer and decided to write this review instead.

Last year they burned my hair using bleach that was too strong, my ends broke off every time I combed my hair. I had to comb over the sink otherwise the bathroom floor would be littered with broken off hair. Which is why you can see the texture of my hair look bad from the midsection to the ends in one of the photos posted. I should not have returned to Haartek, but I was lured by the convenience of the location. Big mistake!

Hit or miss

I have been to this salad several times and have worked with a few hairstylists. I continued to come back to work with one individual who spent a lot of time on my hair and made sure it was 100% and that I was happy. I had my hair done for my sister's wedding by another woman who wasn't as pleasant and seemed to rush my hair. It's a big salon with very different personalities, so it's really about finding the right hairstylist. The atmosphere was okay - but it was a little big and busy for me.

DON'T recommend it at all! I cut and colored my hair in this place twice. Both times I was not happy with my hair cut, the second time I saw Olivia who had more experience and they told me that she is their best, they also told me that they have a policy that they redo the haircut (free of charge) if the customer is not happy with the haircut. The haircut was awful! (She literally just cut my hair in two minutes). I was not happy, I called them twice and at the end, they told me that I should pay half price for the redo!! This place is too expensive and you don't get a good haircut at the end. DON'T recommend it at all!

I've been going to Haartek Salon for about 6 years and I have been seeing OLIVIA the whole time !!!! Olivia is all around talented. I have long hair and when she cuts my hair she never cuts more than needed!!! She also colours my hair, she's done dark and light colours on me and comes out on point.

Olivia is incredibly professional and classy.
She tailors her hair and color expertise to each client- I was incredibly impressed with all of her suggestions each time I have had the pleasure of her services.
The best colorist and best stylist I have ever had!

Olivia is absolutely the most professional, personable and talented stylist out there. I trust no one else with my hair and have been a faithful and loyal customer of hers for years and always walk away happy after each visit. If you are looking for a wonderful cut, colour or blow dry then I highly recommend you book an appointment with her.

This place feels like home. I've been seeing Olivia at Haartek for years now, and I've never been more pleased with a salon experience before in my life. She is a master at both short and long cuts, completely revolutionizing how I style and care for my hair. The stylists at this salon truly care about their work and clients, and the atmosphere is INCREDIBLE. So welcoming, kind, beautiful and fresh. Not to mention the hot drinks and scalp massage, free with every cut! I'll be a client of theirs for years to come. You truly must visit.

I've been going to this salon for 17 years now. My first hair stylist was really the only one that knew how to style my hair. After she left, I continued to go because the people were friendly, it was convenient for me, and the other stylist were pretty good. Then maybe 3-4 yrs ago, they switched management. I still continued to go as my stylist was still there, the old manager was working part time, and the new manager was a stylist previously. Hence to say I was very disappointed when I came in to do my hair on my wedding day, and they charged me for bringing in my makeup artist to use their space. It's not like they have their own make up artist that would be losing business or anything. It's just poor customer service. Not only have I been a loyal customer for 17 years, but I've referred so many people over that time. Needless to say I will not be recommending this place anymore. My wedding will also be featured in a highly read wedding magazine which I will NOT be giving a plug to this salon. There are so many other salons in the Toronto area where the stylists are on trend and the service is 10x better, for a lot less! Hope the $75 was worth it Haartek!
