Raymond is a wonderful stylist. I've been going to Hair City for over 4 years and never had any complaints about the cut. BUT the wait time is ridiculous. It takes at least 2 hours just for a hair cut. There was only 1 time I was in there for under an hour and it's because I told him I had an appointment to go to afterwards. So until I can find a hairstylist as talented as Raymond, I'll just have to put up with the wait.
I have - rephrase, had been only going to see Raymond. Love Him. The best hair dresses/stylist I had ever had, but its just not worth it anymore.
On ALL my appointments, i had to wait at least a half hour before i even sat in a chair. I only managed to ever get maybe 2 head massages out of the 3 years I went there. And yet, I saw everyone else get one. Fishy.
but what cut the cake, was the last appointment I had was 4 and a half hours!!! Just for the cut!! I can handle 2 hours or so, but he wouldnt even finish cutting my hair and they he would be off cutting someone elses hair and then come back to me... like WTH. And it was only for a cut and highlights!!
I also found it very discriminating that they only spoke Chines. That was the worst part of sitting there for 4 and a half hours, you couldnt talk to anyone or understand what any of them where speaking.
Like I said I love Raymond but it is sooooo not worth it. I would also like to add, the first time I went there it only cost he $45.00 for a cut and highlights. The last appointment I had, they charged me $145.00. I rather not go there.
Might give it another try, but I cant fathom wasting a whole day for a hair cut.
Hair city is located at China town beside/in the same floor/building as U and Me and if you don't know where you are going you will not find it as it doesn't have a sign outside. When I moved back to Calgary I was looking for a good hair salon and it took me years and still couldn't find a person I would like to always return to. I am either not satisfy with the hair cut or the person is rude. One of my co-worker recommended this place to me and I gave it a try. I have my hair cut by Angel. She's friendly and always give me hair cut the suits my face/style. It's not always the same hair cut as she will change it up. She also teaches me how to style my hair so it looks great everyday. Not only that, she's very professional. When she works on your hair she will concentrate on your hair not another person or a phone call etc. It's more expensive then more hair place in China town but not as expensive as an upscale salon. I always come out looking great
I went to other couple salons for my haircut. I did not like it at all; my haircuts were pretty outdated. I was upset with the salons in Calgary. Then, I have some friends recommend me to go Hair City. After I had my haircut by Raymond, I know this is the one I am looking for.
Suggestion to get an ideal haircut:
Bring your ideal haircut picture and discuss with you hairstylist. He/she will make adjustment basic on your face shape and your ideal haircut. Try it!
I first went in as a walk-in... it's surprisingly nice inside. They have some nice tuneskis too! I usually don't have to wait so long, maybe 1-10 minutes depending how busy they are! First they wash your hair and give you a scalp massage, it's a little weird, I think it's a Hong Kong style massage, they rub your temples a lot.
My stylist is Alice, she always makes me look great and always likes to chat with me.
Alice just had a baby girl so she's not in on Tuesday afternoons, I went not-knowing and Angel cut my hair last time... I never want to get my hair cut by her again. Not that she's bad... but what she did didn't compliment my face and since I'm not her usual client, she wasn't so pleasant to talk to.
I hear Raymond is really good though!
The price is admittedly high... about $35/cut. $90/perm... I don't remember how much to colour. I've been going there for years so I think it's worth it.
