We recently took a vacation to Mexico in April. We thought we would go to Cabo as we had heard it was so great. We learned that it was just bars and t shirt stores. There were no beaches available to swim at as it was on the Pacific. After 7 expensive nites (10 dollars American for a beer) and 4 nites in San Jose del Cabo we finally got to La Paz with low expectations. How wrong we were. During November to April you can swim with Whale Sharks and Sea lIons. The Bay of Cortez is the aquarium of the world.. They will offer you trips for 490 dollars American to do these trips, but just walk to the pier, talk to a local and you will get the same trip with only 6 people instead of up to 50 and it will cost you 60 dollars!!! As it is not a tourist place, most don't do there. No one will bother you to buy stuff, at night everyone goes to the Malecon as it I cooler at nite and they will eat and drink, bike, roller blade. etc. We stayed right in the heart of town where we could walk five minutes to a beach. We rented a car and visited only two of the 5 beaches within a 30 minute or less drive. The traffic and drivers are patient and curtious.. I used to visit Cuba every year and somewhere else for our second vacation, but La Paz is now my favourite place and am looking forward to going back in November to swim with the sharks again.
