100% OF CHICKS DIG IT
Since its just down the street from the office, I've gone to Gourmand a few times since I started working at Chickadvisor.
Food: Mainly sandwiches salads fair but they do have pasta/entree specials too. I usually get either the prosciutto brie with pesto sandwich or the goat cheese salad. Both of which are delicious!
Drinks: Good latte, but I actually like coming here for the hot chocolate. Not sure why but it doesn't taste as choclatey when I order a larger size, so if you want to try it I recommend going for a small.
Baked goods: mmm its amazing here. Love their chocolate chip cookies (crisp but chewy on the inside)
Service: The people who work there are friendly but I find during lunch its a lot slower then one would want for an hour break. I don't expect a salad or sandwich to take that long to get made (Esp. since the sandwiches are premade)
Yes this cafe has wonderful pastries, well done coffees and the like, but what I really need to tell you about is their meatloaf. I love meatloaf. I have had a lot of meatloaf from many places and cooked by wonderful chefs including my mother. The meatloaf at Le Gourmand is THE BEST I have ever had. It's super moist, perfectly cooked and has the most amazing sweet, ketchupy sauce. They serve it on their special board everyday with mashed potatoes and a lovely wild greens salad for around $10. So worth it, you'll be stuffed!
I walk past this place every morning and I can smell the fresh baking through the door - mmmmmm!
I finally went in to grab some lunch a couple weeks ago and I enjoyed the most delicious grilled ham panini. I've also tasted one of these chocolate cookie balls. I would eat there everyday if there were no such thing as calories.
This place is a gem for all things pastry. From nookie cookies to chocolate bombes and lemon tarts, everything is delectable and most are made on site. There is also a good selection of caffeine offerings (Dean & Deluca) and "real" food offerings. There are three locations - the one on Spadina is cozy, the one at Yonge and Eg. is more chic and will be open late this summer - haven't been to the third one yet.
Best pain au chocolate in the city! (wait, maybe I shouldn't have said that because now people will snatch them up before I get there....)
Anyway, overal the food is pretty good. Sandwiches are usually awesome (especially when they butter the outside and stick it in the press so it comes out nice and crispy), sweets are good (try the giant cookies), some of the soups are good some aren't... as with the salads and entrees. I had a quiche there that was kind of gross, but I think that was one of the few/only things I've ever had that I disliked.
