I had an overwhelmingly positive experience with this studio! I don’t get my hair done very often and have had poor experiences in the past. Rachel walked me through every step, had me very much part of the entire process, and did just a fabulous job on my colour, cut, and style. I cannot recommend Lucas Nault Hair Studio highly enough! 👩🏻🎤
I had my hair done here - colour, trim, and style in preparation for my wedding. The highlights were exactly what I didn't want but the styling was gorgeous. I was reassured many times during the appointment that if the colour wasn't what I wanted I could get a re-colour another day. I made a colour correction appointment where my stylist was gracious and did a perfect job. However Lucas was not happy and stomped around, snapping at my stylist and sending dirty looks. On the day my wedding came I went in and was having my hair styled when my florist popped in to give my stylist the flowers to place in my hair. It was one of those special moments as she bent down to say hi and encourage me to enjoy my day...when Lucas screamed like a banshee at his dog who was on my lap doing absolutely nothing wrong. It was a heart-stopping, moment-ruining experience and we were all lost for words and excitement. Bye bye Lucas Nault. You have a mental disorder.
Worst salon experience I ever had!! Owner takes no care of teaching his assistants about customer service. Today I had a hair cut, in the middle of it the stylist Stephanie left me to talk to another assistant thrice. She could have at least told me what was happening! I was practically sitting there with hair on face wondering what is going on! Although I was booked for cut at the beginning I told her I also wanted to do 2 foil highlights. She finished my hair cut started setting my hair up ( as I had never done highlights I thought foil highlights can be done later). I thought she was going to do my highlights when I asked she said I have no time for that, you have to book another appointment. You could have told me that before! no communication with the customer what so ever!! She asked another assistant to get my grey coat (it was black) she said it in a way like its the world's most dirtiest thing. Not only that she burned my scalp with hot air and she does not even know how to handle a hair dryer, she brushed me off with it couple of times. I used to live in Kingston and went to James Brett saloon all the time. All the saloons in Ottawa should pay a visit there to learn what is customer service!! Worst Worst Salon ever !!!
I had heard many times about this salon from many people and decided I would try it out for myself. I booked an appointment with Carly (the girl with purple hair) as we both have party colors in our hair and figured she would be the one most able to relate with my style.
I was not disappointed, Carly is absolutely amazing! She took the time to figure out exactly what cut I wanted. My very limited explanations combined with her expert suggestions assured I walked out of Lucas Nault hair studio with a custom cut and style I loved. She assured me I would be welcomed back if I had any issues with my hair when I tried to style it on my own. I did not need to, but was happy to know that I could feel comfortable returning if I was not 100% satisfied. I have often struggled to get stylists to do the colors I wanted but this is obviously not a problem with her. I now regularly suggest ... from many people and decided I would try it out for myself. DO NOT get turned off by the limited space, the staff are nice and from what I hear, all do great work. This combined with their environmentally friendly products and great discounts for students makes this salon my top pick in all of Ottawa.
I just moved to Sandy Hill and wanted to find a new stylist. I had walked in to book an appointment based on the reviews, and when the day came, it was never recorded on their sheet. Not only did they not admit it, they were irritated, & questioned my memory! I said that I was looking at their business card with today's date. So I asked to book another time. The haircut was the worst experience I've had in a salon in 20 years. She spent a whole 5 minutes cutting my hair, uneven bangs, and thinned my already very fine shoulder length hair. During that short time, she pet and played with dog, chatted with the next hair stylist, and complained that everyone takes turns answering the phone because there's not enough space for a receptionist in the salon. (owner likely too cheap to hire one). She even answered her own cell phone during the cut! Well, it took 20min for a wash, cut, dry and to pay. I will never go back, I could live with bad customer treatment, but will not be paying $45 for someone to play with scissors. The owner needs to shape up and take action on lousy service, it's fortunate for him he has a plethora of new students otherwise this guy would never survive. L.
Update: I went to York Street Spa (YSS), and asked for an assessment without mentioning that I had my haircut 2 days earlier. The stylist thought I hadn't had a haircut in 2 months, several split ends on the ends, and uneven bangs. I have since paid for a cut at YSS and am very pleased. I didn't go back to Lucas as I didn't want to trust my hair to his salon. I was horrified by the experience as it took seconds to use the thinning scissors. The above is a harsh review, but Stephanie did only spend 5 minutes cutting although I was in the chair for 10 minutes, she dried my hair before cutting it & took 2 breaks, to answer the phone, and pet/play with the dog. Lucas is obviously a talented hair stylist, but needs to take a look at his staff and customer service. I spoke to a long time resident of Sandy Hill and his place has a reputation of hairdressers partying, not taking things seriously. That's the impression I got when my stylist preferred to chat up a colleague instead of focusing on the cut. Lucas has apologized about the missed appointment on google reviews, says there's no receptionist really because of space & doubts his stylist only spent 5 minutes. Laura
Last Saturday, I went to the salon on a whim to ask them if they thought they could fix my hair after having gone somewhere else and being very dissapointed with my color.... The girls that were working that day took the time to listen when I told them about my hair crisis and I really liked the fact that one of the girls I spoke to didn't hesitate before saying: "Of course we can fix it! Don't worry, you will love it!" I felt much better and very confident that they could fix my hair. On the day of my appointment, I felt really at ease the minute I entered the salon. I got a friendly greeting and someone took care of me right away. (even though I was very late for my appointment). Everyone at the salon was very friendly and nice. The staff help each other out and will not hesitate to chat with you even if you aren't their client. Even though I just went to the salon for a color correction, I asked Kit, my stylist, to cut my hair. It was a spur of the moment thing... Wow! Her cut is amazing.... I love it soooo much. I'm so happy with my color and I'm really happy with my cut. My whole experience at the salon exceeded my expectations. I'm so happy to have gone to Lucas Nault hair salon. The only thing I regret is not having tried it sooner! I will definitely go back.
WORST. HAIRCUT. EVER.
I went in and had a lovely conversation with Kit, where I explained that I wanted to keep the same shape of the hair but a little shorter in the back. Sounds good, she understands (I think!). We are chatting and in a split second she has the razor out and is shaving my neck -- like a 1995 undercut. It only took a split second and I was so shocked that I had no time to say -- WHOA, hold on there.
So I left the salon in tears with a reverse mullet.
Never going back there. By the way, the place is a dump and there were dogs running around and the salon has just a sense of chaos. Not exactly a relaxing experience.
Lucas Nault Hair Studio is one of the best in Ottawa. Great location great service and most importantly great hair! Lucas really knows what he's doing, I always love the results and always get lots of compliments on my hair. The staff is easy to get along with and Lucas always makes sure I end up looking like a supermodel. I would definitely recommend this salon.
I lucked out by getting Kit as my stylist. She not only listens to what you want, but is not afraid to take a bit of risk. This is a really nice combination to come across, as I find that more and more stylists play it as safe as possible and leave you feeling lack-luster about your cut (which has left a $100 hole in your pocket). Kit is easy going and easy to talk to; the appointment flew by.
In addition, I like the products that this salon uses. My skin usually always gets stained when I dye my hair dark colours, but in this case my skin was left unblemished and my hair didn't smell super toxic. Very refreshing!
I would definitely recommend this studio; the atmosphere and service make this a step up from other salons.

This little "blink and you'll miss it" salon in Sandy Hill had me at hello - my stylist is Kit really listens to what I want. She doesn't push me to do anything wild with my cut and colour unless I suggest it, and when I say I want '15 min morning prep time hair' she understands. As well, the owner has been in the salon every time I have visited, he even jumped in when Kit and I were debating about the perfect touseled curl for my new year's eve 'do - no detail is too small, and it really adds to the cozy feeling of the place.
I highly recommend this studio, I'm so relieved not to be running back to my old TO salon every time my hair was butchered at an Ottawa salon - no tears at Lucas Nault!
