fresh!
We stopped here for dinner on our way through Ottawa and had a great experience. The staff was really friendly and the food was great. I ordered a salad and added chicken and the ingredients were so fresh and my boyfriend loved his steak and fries
I was recently recommended by a friend to go to Montana's. I took my husband and kids for dinner, Although I think the prices were about average, for the amount of food served (especially the kids meals!!) I don't feel like it was worth it. I thought the food was really good and the service was also excellent. I especially liked the paper they spread over the table that you can draw or write on. I thought that was really cool! Everyone loved it. Over all, I feel if the kids meals were a little bit larger and the adults meals a little bit cheaper, Montana's would be the perfect family spot to eat :)
When my husband and I have some extra money (not very often with four children) we like to go to Montana's. We call it our "Family Place" when we go out and the children know exactly where we're going. They have a good menu for children, and terrific deserts, the little ice cream cones are a hit for my babies every time. The atmosphere is great and the best part is the table. You go to most places and they give your children a little tiny placemat for them to color on, which usually ends up on the floor more times than you can count. Not at Montana's. My children spend the entire "wait time" coloring ON THE TABLE. Then entire table is covered with a roll of paper and they doodle, so do mommy and daddy shhh. We never get that antsy, impatient feeling, drink refills are free and all and all it's a great place to take your family. If you're just going out or want to embarass them with a "happy birthday" dinner. It's a wonderful place to dine.
We go to Montana's frequently. They recently updated their menu. The food is generally very good, but it is hit and miss with the service. When it is good it is very good, but sometimes it is a long wait both to get a table and for the food to arrive (we waited over an hour on a Thursday night for food). The staff though in both the Halifax and Dartmouth locations are very friendly. The food is always quite tasty and you will not walk away hungry. The price is average for that type of restaurant (most entrees are between $15-25). When there is a problem they always try to either resolve it quickly or compensate you for it. (The manager contacted us after our last meal and is sending us something due to the exorbitant wait we experienced). It is very family friendly, as it is a "noisy" but not obnoxious atmosphere. We have a 2 year old and had no problem dining with a toddler.
I used to love coming here at least once every few months with friends or family, but after awhile, you get bored of the menu. I really hope they come out with some new dishes soon. Some people that I come here with absolutely love the ribs and that is all that they ever order.
The restaurant is supposed to resemble the outdoors or outback experience. It's nice to go to a place that you don't have to dress up and all ages are welcome. The service is either a hit or a miss I find. In Ottawa it really is hard to find amazing service quality. This place you are either looked after right from the start, or you could be waiting so long that you are actually tempted to dine and dash! (I've never done that personally, but man, I've been tempted with some places and their lack of service!).
This cook house needs a few new fun meals if they want me to keep coming back.
Note: Do not attempt to eat the mile high mud pie by yourself. You will die trying.
