Nyood (pronounce like "feud") is located in the trendy hip area of Queen W. and Dovercourt. I had planned my bestfriend's b-day dinner here for something different other than sushi. My friends were late so I had to push back the reservation which they happily accommodated on a busy Saturday night and Thanksgiving long-weekend. Staff was extremely friendly. They have coat check so the nice hostess took my jacket and seated me right away. The decor is very cool, trendy with an artsy feel. Over us hung a huge chandelier made out of what looked like black cable - very interesting to look at to say the least. I was alone for about 10 minutes but our server took my drink order right away and brought out some appetizers of olives and corn nuts? Weird combo but tasted good. I order a Pink Beauty cocktail which is named after one of my fave Canadian makeup lines Pink Beauty! It was soo good - Soho liqueur, Grey Goose Vodka, Grapefruit juice, and Chandon.
When my friends finally arrived, the server informed us that if any of us got cold he could provide a pashmina! How sweet is that?? The restaurant has a tapas menu so its meant for ordering a few dishes to share among friends. It's recommended if you are going out with a big group because if there are only a few of you you have to order a lot just so you can have a full meal! Plus, it becomes very costly. The plates are rather small for the price but each dish tasted exquisite! Loved the Spring Salad (avocado, watermelon, and feta cheese) and the Lychee Ceviche (lychee, shrimp, and cucumbers). They are also known for their flat breads - loved the Rustic Tomato Flatbread.
It's a great spot if you want to look fabulous and eat/drink amongst fabulously looking people. The ambiance is very chill in a hip sophisticated way. DJ supplied the vibes which at times was a little loud but otherwise set the mood. Definitely recommended to go with a big group or on a date - what's more intimate than sharing food and feeding one another? haha. Great too if you're trying to watch your figure - don't go if you're expecting a huge meal. I was still a little hungry when I got home but the good service and awesome tasting food made it worth it. After dinner you can chill at the bar/lounge area or take a quick jaunt down the street to The Drake!
