This small restaurant is conveniently located by the Varsity Cinema theatres by Bay & Bloor. It has delightful hot japanese dishes, which include okonomi (hence, the name) and Teriyaki. They don't serve sushi.
There aren't many places you'll find okonomi served downtown, but they're delicious. The teriyaki is light and they don't overload you with rice, which is nice.
My real qualm about it is that the place has very bad air circulation and you always leave smelling like the food. =(
The Okonomi house is a very unique restaurant. It's not very fancy but the atmosphere is nice and the place is clean. The location is in the heart of downtown, 23 Charles St. W just behind the Manulife Center and very close to Younge St.
What is great about Okonomi house is that they serve authentic Japanese okonomiyaki (Japanese Pancake). Okonamiyaki is a pan fried egg and flour batter pancake. You can choose what ingredients you want to go in the pancake, such as beef, vegetables, chicken, squid, etc. You can choose up to two toppings at the restaurant. The price for an okonamiyaki is around 6-8 dollars and you can add bonito flakes and seaweed topping for 50 cents more. They top the pancake off with traditional okonami sauce (it's kind of like sweet soya sauce) and mayonnaise. It may sound weird but it's delicious!
They also serve other Japanese food such as chicken teriyaki bento boxes but I would definitely recommend that you give the Japanese pancake a try!
