When you check this place out on the web, it looks really good, but when you actually
experience it...yikes! It's more of a tavern than a restaurant.
The food was below average, the decor was 'garage'esque (dark, dirty and smelly (and not good smells))
There are a hundred decent, well priced restaurants on Preston St. in Ottawa - why
would anyone want to eat at Pub Italia?
This is such a fantastic place to come and sit down with friends or family! If you enjoy a good beer, you will love coming here- they have 200 different kinds, and over 30 on tap, I believe. Actually, the beer menu is more extensive than the actual food menu. If you are having troubles deciding what kind of beer to try, just ask your server. They are really helpful with finding the right one for you. I absolutely love the strawberry Fruli.
The regular menu is pretty basic, but very filling. If you have room after all the beer and food, you MUST try the beeRAMI-SU. Trust me. The menu describes the dessert as "lady fingers dipped in espresso, Kahlua & Frangelico with layers of Mascarpone cheese & Frangelico mousse". So amazing.
Also, if you can, try to get in the Abbey at least once, for a slightly different atmosphere. Reservations are best here, as the place fills up really fast- especially after the working day has finished.
I would also like to add that this is one of the top places in Ottawa service-wise. Everyone is really friendly, attentive to the customer and know what they are talking about, unlike some restaurants that take forever to serve you, or make you wait half an hour for your bill.
Pub Italia has over 200 types of beer, so it has incredible selection. Even if you don't like beer, you're bound to be able to find one you like. The menu is pretty basic, but most entries are solid. Don't expect too much though, it's pretty cheap food. I like ordering the 10 inch Pollo Pizza. The topings are more plentiful than any other place i've been. The decor of the pub is also pretty memorable. The last time i went there, it cost me $30 for dinner, dessert, and 3 premium beers (pints). But you can get out of there for $20 or less no doubt.
