100% OF CHICKS DIG IT
Da Emma's is a charming old world Italian Roman restaurant tucked into the basement of an historic prison in Old Montreal. When you first enter there is an impressive collection of celebrity photos on the wall with everyone from Cate Blanchet to Johnny Depp with an arm around Emma in her kitchen. It is immediately apparent that this is a cult favourite.
Servers bring the menu (in Italian) on chalkboards to each table where they explain each dish in detail. Complimentary bruschetta arrives fresh from the kitchen before menu selection begins. Da Emma is famous for the fettuccini with porcini mushrooms ($25), which I can confirm is worth every bit of the hype. I don't know how she does it. I like to dissect recipes and try to figure out what is in each dish so I can try making it at home. It's hands down the best pasta I've ever tried. Also noteworthy is the medaglioni with fresh tomato and basil sauce. I only wish I had room for the tiramisu!
Guests will also appreciate the warm ambiance. Stone walls with low wooden plank ceilings, crisp white table cloths and glowing candles... it's a great spot for a romantic date.
This is a new favourite restaurant for me.
Prices range from $18 - $45 per entree.
