Super sad to see all the bad reviews, as this place is a real gem! Maria is amazing, and she is the only person I trust with my brows. I've been going to her for a couple of years now, and have recommended several friends to her, and they all LOVE it. I am constantly getting compliments on my brows, and I think it is safe to say that Maria keeps my eyebrows on point! Definitely worth trying, don't let the bad reviews deter you, Maria is AWESOME! (although she just had a baby now, so she may reduce her workload a little)
I am shocked at the bad revies. Maria is so friendly and remembers her clients by name. She even remembered what job I had on my second appointment. She does the best eye brow threading. And the cost can't be beat. She's also continually working on improving the salon's interior!
Rhythm Spa and Maria (the owner) are excellent! I’ve been going here for about 2 years for waxing, specifically Brazilian waxing. I’ve been waxing for about 15 years and have visited too many salons to count over the years so I can tell you from experience that Maria’s spa and technique are absolutely A and hit all of my required criteria. I have not visited another salon since I found hers and I have no desire to go elsewhere – I would highly recommend! My requirements; 1. Sanitary – there is no unsanitary double dipping here! The salon, waxing table/bedding are clean and also very nicely decorated and welcoming. 2. Technique: Maria is a quality estitician, she applies wax and removes it swiftly and seamlessly. Her technique reduces the pain that can be caused by inexperienced/sloppy estiticians and it also allows for quick sessions (about 15 min) which is great if you have a very low tolerance for pain (like myself). 3. Thorough: Maria get’s everything! There are no missing spots when I get home, back to front she is very thorough. 4. Professional and friendly: Maria is a quality business woman and also very friendly. She’s great to talk to about all issues you may want to discuss in general or just casual conversation to distract you from any pain. She is very good at her job and comforting with her clients so if this is your first Brazilian & you feel embarassed, there is absolutely no need. 5. PRICE! Hands down the best around and she’s always offering promotions like student discounts and pre-paid yearly waxing packages. Don’t let her low prices fool you, you get Trump quality for a fraction of the cost!!! Lastly, she’s always been able to fit me in even on last minute requests and she is conveniently located downtown a quick walk from the Eaton’s Centre so I go there on lunch (12 min walk from the Financial District). If you live in the ‘burbs like me (Markham) she is definitely worth the trip downtown!!!
I've been to this place twice, both for Brazillian's I've bought coupons for. At first it was hard to get an appointment, but the second time was a breeze, and I actually had to reschedule this appointment twice, which they very politely accepted and even extended my coupon with a gift certificate for me, which was really nice of them. When I was waiting to be called in for my wax, I read their screen that said how only 1% of their customers leave reviews that effects 99% of their new customers, so I wanted to return the favor.
At the first waxing appointment, the owner took care of me, I believe her name was Maria. She was very gentle (I'm a bikini wax wuss, and usually complain a lot around the central areas), was quick and it hardly hurt at all. And she didn't make me do weird leg lifts that some spas do.
The second one was another worker, Nazma I wanna say. Her English wasn't the best but she tried making conversations to get my mind off of the waxing, which was nice of her. She was also very gentle and quick. I was out of there in 10-15 minutes.
Oh and neither of them double dipped in the wax, and they both used gloves. So thumbs up.
I will definitely be going back.
Horrible experience at this spa. I wanted an appointment for 5:30 PM, they told me they could only take me at 4:45 PM. When I arrived on time, after 45 minutes of waiting, they told me that they don't take appointments on Tuesdays and I should reschedule! They were not apologetic or courteous enough to acknowledge how long I waited, which would have made a difference for me. for THIS reason, I will not return. I am VERY disappointed, extremely unprofessional.
I've been to this spa twice. Both times, on entering, I was hit by the overpowering scent they use. I think it's frangipani, which is a pleasant scent if used sparingly, but at the spa, the over use of it made me choke and gag. The space is sprawling and has the potential to be casually hip.
Both times I had massages. They were not the deep tissue massage I expected, more like being thumped by a rabbit. I also had a pedicure the second time. I think the staff person was so tired she apply two coats of polish to one foot and one coat to the other. I felt sorry for her and didn't say anything.
I tried the spa twice now and nothing about it makes me want to go back.
I would rather post anonymous because the owner tends to respond to 'bad press' but I had to tell you ladies about this place:

Apparently the owner responds to all comments/bad reviews.
This place gets bad reviews for a reason....here's another bad review. Wondering if she will blame this on her staff....
I went to Rhythm spa for pampering in the form of manicure, pedicure, massage. When I entered, the owner (Maria) was on the phone and didn't bother to get off the phone or say hello to me. I hung up my own coat and sat down by myself. Another employee asked if I was there for an appointment and I told her I was. She told me I would get my mani/pedi first and then have the massage. The spa itself is pretty and I did like the decor. I was seated on raised chair and put my feet in this individual pedicure spa. The person doing my pedicure did a lot of (very strange) examining of the tools and looking back and forth. She started during the pedicure-cut my cuticles to the point they were bleeding and I had to tell her to stop. She told me the tools were 'brand new and very sharp' (her English was not very good). Then she took the foot file to the bottoms of my feet....bleeding again and cuts. I told her to stop and she told me my feet were dry (yes I know but could you please not cut me up?). The owner was working on a client next to me and handed the girl the scrub and said use this. Imagine how the scrub felt after the scrapes on my feet.....relaxing? Nope!
Shall I speak of the owner? Hmm- gossiping with client about past employees and how bad they were-how much money they lost her, how many free certificates she had to give out? Then telling her client she knows this person, that person, name dropping all over the place (tacky, *yawn*) I guess she knew the girl or something but if I am sitting right next to them, is this appropriate talk? There was mention of all the people in the movie business she knows and that her client should hand over some head shots....it was just awkward and weird
While I was getting a pedicure, someone came in to use the infrared sauna. I happen to love those and asked the owner about it. she told me the spa offers memberships-and that this client had an unlimited package, so she could use the sauna for as long as she wants when she wants. I thought this was interesting. She also said, "Yeah everyone gets memberships here (you pay a price per month for services). My client has a membership and she has a membership. So basically you get better service if you have a membership? Is that why I got cut up during my pedicure?
So after the hellish pedicure, I got my manicure. This worked out much better-I had asked for a 'reverse French manicure'. The girl didn't know what I meant-and I just told her to put clear polish on. I was exhausting myself just trying to explain. The manicure was decent.
Massage-a huge open room with wooden foldable screen. I walked in and saw 2 massage beds and thought to myself, "Are they really going to massage someone else here?" The therapist told me that they often have couples and parties for massage but that we would have the room to ourselves. That helped a little. The massage therapist was good-she likes to talk though. As I got dressed, I realized that I was more stressed at that point then I was when I walked in.
As I was leaving, I noticed a man and a woman holding a marketing meeting in the 'waiting area' (I knew that's what it was because the owner was complaining about a marketing woman bothering her and that her husband would deal with it). Great place to hold a meeting right?
I want to believe that things will improve, but I doubt it. I will never go back there-the owner is immature and obnoxious and the staff is not adequately trained. There are plenty of spas in Toronto that don't cut your feet up and know what 'reverse french manicures' are.
sad. sad. sad.
