I needed to get a Shellac mani-pedi so, happening to be in the area, I opted for Rouge nail bar on Fairmount. I am a regular at the Rouge on Crescent and am generally pleased with my experience there. However this first experience at Rouge Fairmount was just horrific. When I first arrived I noticed how empty and unclean the place was. When the time came for me to select my shade with my technician, the receptionist loudly pointed out that the one I had chosen looked like liquid paper! Then, as the technician started applying the Shellac, I pointed out to her that the base coat she was using seemed very dry and that maybe the bottle was old, which she denied. To make matters worse, halfway through my manicure, the technician asked the receptionist whether she would have a lunch break to which she responded "When you're done with her". Not a way to make a customer feel welcomed, especially given the fact that the technician still had to do my pedicure and that this service totals to around 120$ with tax and tip! As the technician finished up my manicure, she put some cream on my hands and arms without massaging it in and offered to hand me a paper towel in order for me to "wipe off the excess". The final result of the manicure was OK- however the polish looks uneven around the cuticles.
Now the pedicure. I had to ask twice for her to cut my toe nails, first time I asked she only quickly filed them. She then started exfoliating my feet, which was extremely painful, a day later and the sides of my feet are still red. Of course I asked her to be more gentle, but it seems that was too much to ask. She also dropped the scrubber and it picked up a hair from the floor, she did not rinse it, just attempted to continue the exfoliation but I told her to just move on to the next step. After she had applied 2 shellac coats of color, I asked her if she could apply a third one as the color looked cloudy to which she responded: "OK, but quickly, or else I won't eat all day". Having been done in such a hurry, the final result was of course horrible, the color was too thick in some areas and too thin in others. Becoming aware of my discontent, a nearby technician came up to me to see what the problem was. I showed her the color on my toes and she agreed that the result was unacceptable. She only made me pay for the manicure and offered that I come back for the pedicure at a later time and only pay for the service once I am satisfied with it. As this unfolded my technician did not apologize but simply looked away, making things even more awkward. I don't think I'll be back...
