While I like Sephora, I do not like their store. Majority of the time the Toronto store has way too many people. The worst thing is, if I'm trying to look for someone, they ignore me. Unless I'm carrying a nice bag. They've gotten slightly better, but for the most part I prefer shopping on the website.
This place is honestly such a hit or miss. I love going here but I hate it at the same time. It's almost ALWAYS busy, unless you go on like a Tuesday morning, it is literally always packed with people. Which sucks because 1. you can't find someone to help you, as they are always busy with other people and then when they do help you they are rushing you because they have to help other people. 2. You have a hard time getting to products because people are either in your way or the product tester isn't even there! That literally happens more times than not, I go to try a product and it's missing! I find that so annoying and it prevents me from buying the product cause I can't see it, you know? and finally 3. The line ups to the cash are SO LONG like they take foooorever. That's why I stick to shopping online to be honest, and they have a great return policy so if you get something that you aren't a huge fan of you can always return it. The times that I have gone in the morning have been great though, everyone is willing to help you out, is super nice and doesn't rush you. I have been helped by some amazing people at this location
I LOVE Sephora. They have so many different brands and every kind of makeup and beauty products imaginable. I love that I can try products before I purchase them and can return them for a full refund if they do not meet my expectations (They have an overly generous return policy).
The service is okay - there is usually an employee to greet you and offer you a shopping bag when you first arrive, which is appreciated. Though sometimes it is difficult to find assistance from employees once you're in the store and the assistance does not always feel genuine or friendly. That being said, it is not horrible - I understand Sephora is a busy and tiring store to work in.
Overall, I definitely recommend this store, particularly to those who may be looking for certain products but are unsure of what exactly they need from beauty products - employees are great at explaining different products, brands, etc.
I have bought a few things from Sephora but it's not a regular stop as the prices are a little above my budget. The staff are great and very friendly in all the locations I've been to.
I bought some makeup when I was getting married and the lovely girl who helped me with shades of foundation was a huge resource of information and left a great impression.
My only beef is that you cannot pay with gift cards on their Canadian online shop (which being 2016 now is ridiculous - and its been years that I've been waiting to do this because there's great deals online that they don't have in store)
I love buying makeup from Sephora. Since I don't wear much makeup, I rarely go out and buy makeup. So even though the prices are pretty expensive, it is worth it for me because I don't but makeup more than once a year (if that at all). The only thing is that there are so many workers walking around asking if I want help, which I don't really like when I am just browsing.
I love makeup since I was little, but Sephora usually overwhelms me, and it doesn't matter to what store I go. There is a great selection of beauty products to buy from different brands. I am giving it a slight lower mark just because I feel products there are overpriced.
If you've never been in to a Sephora store, your first time can be very overwhelming. There is so much to see, try out or smell, it can be a sensory overload. Thank goodness for having a mass amount of employees on star at all times. Everyone is very informative and are more than happy to give you samples or even apply makeup to you right then and there! Customer service is impeccable! Very friendly, fast service (online and instore). I also ordered the wrong colour of foundation online and didn't have a chance to make it to a store for more than a month and the exchanged it for the correct colour - no questions asked! And I didn't even have my receipt! Thanks to being apart of their Beauty Insiders club (incentive) they kept all my purchase history and found my receipt in a second!
I love walking into sephora. I usually buy all my makeup from here as it has majority of all the brands I use. They also have an area or natural products which I love using. It is as time very pricey but good quality beauty products. The staff is also every helpful. I love how they recommend products that match together and what will look best on me. However the store is usually packed with people making it hard to get that one-on-one attention for a while.
Sephora Sephora Sephora. What did I do before you came into my life? It's hard to believe that not so many years ago, I bought all my cosmetics and skin care without swatching or sampling them, and if (when) products didn't work out, I was just out of luck and out of money. I also thought my local drugstore had a great selection of products. And then came our Sephora store...
It's a love/hate relationship. I love being able to test and sample and touch the products. I love the huge selection of products I'd previously only seen online and talked about in YouTube videos. I love wandering around like a kid in a candy store and discovering something new.
But now that I've tried high end products with creamy formulas, rich pigmentation, beautiful packaging and just so many options, the drug store products I used to think were fine have now lost their luster. Unfortunately, my new appreciation of all that Sephora has to offer is a costly habit. Sales are infrequent and often only for members at a certain reward level.
Service is hit or miss. Sometimes you find a cast member who is attentive, knowledgeable and happy to make samples, sometimes you can't get anyone working to make eye contact with you. That said, their return policy is excellent - you can even return opened products if they didn't work for you. You can't say that for the local drugstore!
If you sign up for a Beauty Insider card, you earn points for each pre-tax dollar spent that can be accumulated and cashed in for some nice deluxe sized samples from time to time. There are additional benefits once you spend $350 in a calendar year (VIB) or if you break the $1000 mark (VIB Rouge). Everyone who signs up for a Beauty Insider card gets a free birthday gift - usually a deluxe sized sample set from a well known brand like Benefit or Marc Jacobs. Some years there have even been a choice between 2 sets! I think that's a pretty swell perk for a free membership with no purchase requirements!
A word of warning for Canadian shoppers to keep in mind - Sephora gift cards purchased in store cannot be redeemed online in Canada. This is a huge bummer, because some items are online only, some gift with purchase promotions are online only, and some people just buy someone a card thinking they don't need to be near a store to redeem it when in fact, they do. The fact that Sephora hasn't fixed this by now should embarrass them. It's disappointing, to be sure.
For better or for worse, though, I'm hooked. You might recognize other hopeless souls by the product swatches covering their arms and their credit cards in their hands. I think we're a pretty big club.
