Sephora Reviews - Toronto

Description

Sephora was founded in 1970 in France as Shop 8 by Dominique Mandonnaud, who, in 1993, fashioned the store's unique name by blending the Biblical name of Zipporah (Moses' exceptionally beautiful wife) with the ancient Greek term for "pretty," sephos.

Today, Sephora is not only the leading chain of perfume and cosmetics stores in France, it's also a powerful beauty presence in 24 other countries. In the United States and Canada, there are over 280 Sephora stores and over 270 Sephora inside JCPenney stores. For more information, visit http://www.sephora.com.

I love Sephora. I really do. They have some great products (though sometimes I spend a bit more than I care to think about while I'm there). I do wish they sold more single colours rather than whole palettes. Also, I've noticed that no matter which Sephora you go to across the country they're always pretty busy. Sales ladies are often nice enough but they don't usually seem to have time to answer a lot of questions.

Although Sephora will forever be a safe haven for me, the sales associates do not know anything for the most part.

They all act like they know more than you (in my case I have been doing makeup for a couple of years now) and they do not even apply makeup well on themselves. How do I take advice from someone who does not know the trade themselves?

    Their service is very disheartening.

On the upside, I love their products and their "Beauty Insider" program.

As a makeup addict this store can eat up a lot of my time and money! I love seeing the variety of makeup brands and assortment. I enjoy that they offer a makeup application tutorial and have friendly staff welcoming you and answering any questions you may have. The set up of the store is organized really well so you aren't walking around aimlessly trying to find something. I love looking through all their brushes and makeup applicators and other accessories until I went in to sephora I never realized that an eyebrow razor existed it sure works well when ur in a rush and do not have time to pluck nor do you want the redening from waxing. I love that sephora has a point system and enjoy choosing free samples at the end of my purchase. I'm sure my husband would write a complete opposite review!

So far I love Sephora. I am trying to find a mascara that does not bring my lashes down. I have pretty straight eye lashes and have the problem that I curl them but as soon I apply mascara they get straight again. I think if i find it somewhere it will be here

I love this store. I really can get lost in it for hours. However macy's and other department stores have better deals when you purchase a fragrance most likely you would get free stuff and most of them are pretty cool.

Sephora is THE place to go for make-up. They have a variety of good quality brands and make-up selection. The service is also pretty good but it's always so crowded that it's hard to find services sometimes.

Okay so a lot of my friends actually haven't heard of Sephora. It is basically the biggest makeup store there is. It is all high-end products. They carry many brands. Some have their own stores (Bare Esscentials, Urban Decay, Philosophy) and some brands are only available at Sephora (Sephora brand) and some are very high end (Lancome, Dior).

The store is set up in a bunch of little booth type things. They are two sided with at least one brand on each side. At the ends are little makeup stations where there is a mirror, qtips, tissues, makeup remover, and trash all for testing out makeup.

Next to every product is a tester. Some testers are like new....others are completely gross! Remember if you test any lip or eyeliner/mascara products, don't use the testers (at least directly).

Quality ranges from product to product so I won't get into that.

Prices....one eyeshadow can be from $5 to $30. There are a lot of value sets where you can get many mini products and kits have a better value than individually buying things.

Unfortunately, at the 3 stores I have been at, the service was pretty bad. The lines move slowly because they don't ever have more than 2 people at the registers, even at a grand opening! They are really good at applying make up and helping you find products for your skin or what you are looking for. But sometimes they can be a little rude if you ask something. They ask if you need any help, but they don't annoy you by following you around the store and stuff.

The rewards program is good, you sign up for free and you get a free item on your birthday, and a small item for every 100 points and a full size exclusive item every 500 points. It is one dollar per point.

Sephora is definately one of my favorite stores! If you are new to it, research it online (the website) because it is very overwhelming when you go, especially if it is a big one.

    Have fun! :)

Maybe it's because I'm not a glamour girl -- right now I just want my products to be as natural as possible -- so I'm not into putting new stuff on my face for the fun of it. But if you love colour, and spending 2-3 hours pampering and making yourself gourgeous with top of the line brand name products, this is the place for you.

Staff are nice, but not overly nice. The girl in one specific section doesn't know what the girl in the other section knows. Maybe it's because there's just too many products to know about?

However, one thing is for sure -- they have a fabulous lash bar!
