A gem of a bird handling experience!

The Falconry Centre gives people the opportunity to get up close to owls, birds of prey and eagle birds from all around the world and learn about some of the world’s biggest birds.

The caregivers looking after the birds have a wealth of knowledge of all species and the birds’ enclosures are very spacious with plenty of opportunity for the birds to come out to fly and meet visitors.

My grandmother loves owls and the Falconry Centre was able to provide an “up close and personal” encounter with three of their owls. My grandmother and I were very amazed at how close we were to such magnificent birds thanks to gauntlet gloves they were able to safely sit on our arms.

Thank you to Gem for delivering some interesting information about Tawny, Eagle and Spectacled owls and for making allowances for my step-dad, who has a visual impairment, by letting him stroke the Spectacled owls head.

Even though this was a surprise experience day for my grandmother’s 90th birthday, we all got something valuable from our owl encounter.
