My husband and I went to the South Common location yesterday for our anniversary and we had a wonderful time. It is a Sunday evening on a long weekend so arriving shortly before 5:00 we were told there was a 45 minute wait. Our wait ended up being 30 minutes. Our appetizer and meals were cooked to perfection. We were not disappointed!
As a mother of two young children (aged 1 and 2) a dinner out with my husband is a rare occasion. We went out tonight to celebrate our third annivesary after finding a babysitter for our girls. We went to the South Common location in Edmonton.
We ordered two New York Classic dinners- one 10 oz and one 14 oz both with baked potatoes. Our garlic cheese bread came out quickly (and was by far the best part of our dinner experience), the ceaser salads were also good. Next comes the issue. The steaks finally came- my husbands looked ok from the start, however mine came was mashed potatoes instead of baked potato. The next time the waitress walked by, I mentioned this issue to her. She said she would get me a baked potato right away. While I was waiting, I decided to cut into my steak and eat that. The steak bled all over my plate- not expected as I had ordered a Medium Well steak. I again mentioned this to the waitress the next time she walked by. I was informed that they would make me a new steak and it would be out shortly. I sat back and tried to remain positive and enjoy our rare evening out.
I asked my husband how his dinner was. He had ordered a rare steak and it arrived much closer to medium then rare. He ate most of his steak, but the last quarter of it was incredibly fatty and so full of grissle that couldn't be chewed. The manager came over shortly after that with my meal again. He asked me to cut into the steak and see how it was. I cut into it and it looked good. We were at a table with no light or candle, the lighting made it difficult to see. The manager told me that my meal would be taken care of for the trouble. I ate my baked potato and vegetable and part of the steak. The steak was over cooked and was very chewy. There was no pink in the steak at all. I really did not enjoy this at all because I do not like eating in front of people when they are not eating. I would have thought a restaurant that specializes in steaks would have been able to grill a steak correctly at least 1 out of 3 times. We had three steaks on our table and none of them were cooked as ordered.
The bill was still $70 with the tip included. My husband ordered one beer and I had a virgin margita and a hot tea. This is still a lot of money for us considering neither or us enjoyed our meal. It took longer then expected as we had to wait for my meal to be recooked, which led to us missing our movie. All in all, our trip to the Keg Steakhouse was incredibly disappointing.
I sent an email to the Keg explaining my experience and the general manager from this location called my husband and spoke to him about this experience. The restaurant has sent us a ift card in the mail to make up for the experience. Hopefully next time everything goes better.
I dined out at the The Keg on Saturday with my hubby & 3 friends for a friend's birthday. We arrived at about 6:30 only to be told there was a 2 hour wait for the dining room. We decided to try our luck in the bar being that it is first come, 1st served. We ordered drinks and It took us approx 45 minutes to get a table in the bar & once we did it was a small one upstairs. Lucky for us, the people beside us got the call to go the the dining room just prior to our entrees arriving, so our waitress grabbed the table very quickly for us. Food was delicious and steaks were cooked to perfection. The birthday boy even got a free desert (Billy miner pie - Mocha ice cream on a chocolate crust with hot fudge, caramel and almonds) that was delightful! Service was excellent and our waitress was very friendly and helpful. Great atmosphere , great food and a great time!
This is my absolute favourite restaurant. The food is perfect every time, and you can be sure if you didn't like anything they'll make amends in a big way. Wait staff is VERY knowledgeable and courteous. The menu is mostly steak and seafood. Fancy tables, dim lighting, music is not too loud, the available alcohol is very good quality.
Huge lineups on special occasions, several hour wait sometimes, be prepared to sit in the lounge for a while before they find you a table. If you get a seat in the lounge you can be served drinks and even your whole meal there if you so choose.
Expect to pay more than $100 for two people. Appetizers are around $10 and meal items (steak/lobster/etc) are around 30 or 40. Drinks are reasonably priced.
It is open late, but not 24 hours. I've had no problem entering after 10pm and finishing a long meal.
Usually fairly formal attire but we went there with nothing to do on Hallowe'en and nobody gave us any grief over wearing costumes so it's not like there's a dress code.
The menu does not really accommodate children.
I love this place and you will too.
